Ubuntu 16.10: Install Android Studio 2.3

This article will describe installing Android Studio 2.3.

1 Install Android Studio

Install package for Android Studio.

$ sudo apt install -y gcc-multilib g++-multilib libc6-dev-i386 \
     qemu-kvm mesa-utils

Install Android Studio to /opt.

$ URL=https://dl.google.com/dl/android/studio/ide-zips/2.3.3.0
$ wget -q ${URL}/android-studio-ide-162.4069837-linux.zip
$ sudo unzip -q android-studio-ide-162.4069837-linux.zip -d /opt/
$ rm -f android-studio-ide-162.4069837-linux.zip

Create desktop file for Android Studio.

$ sudo mkdir -p /usr/local/share/applications
$ cat <<EOF | sudo tee /usr/local/share/applications/android-studio.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=Android Studio
Icon=/opt/android-studio/bin/studio.png
Exec=/opt/android-studio/bin/studio.sh
Terminal=false
Categories=Development;IDE;
EOF

2 Run Android Studio

Run android-studio.desktop at the launcher or run the following command at the terminal.

$ /opt/android-studio/bin/studio.sh
