Install KDE Plasma

This article will describe installing KDE Plasma on latest Linux distribution in 2016/6.

 

1 Ubuntu 16.04

Install kubuntu package with apt.

Because kaccounts-providers postinst script has a overwritten issue, it needs to remove account-plugin-* package before install.

$ sudo apt remove -y account-plugin-*
$ sudo apt install -y kubuntu-desktop

Select lightdm.

Reboot machine.

$ sudo reboot

Select Plasma on login.

Desktop is as below.

2 Debian 8

Install kde-plasma-desktop with apt.

$ sudo apt install -y kde-plasma-desktop

Select lightdm.

Reboot machine.

$ sudo reboot

Select KDE Plasma Workspace on login.

Desktop is as below.

3 CentOS 7

Install KDE Plasma Workspace group package with yum.

$ sudo yum groupinstall -y "KDE Plasma Workspaces"

Reboot machine.

$ sudo reboot

Select KDE Plasma Workspace in login.

4 Fedora 24

Install KDE Plasma Workspace group package with dnf.

$ sudo dnf groupinstall -y "KDE Plasma Workspaces"

Reboot machine.

$ sudo reboot

Select Plasma in login.
